a note on narrative, linearity and retro-blogging

Let me state this clearly: I tend to retro-blog, that is; make posts long after the events described have occured. I also tend to edit and add to previous entries, so you can’t be sure that what you’ve already read remains the same.

It is always a struggle for me to create a coherent linear narrative and blogs both do, and don’t, lend themselves to non-linear forms.

They don’t, in that the ‘post’ form somehow implies a neat forward progression in time that often I can’t, or don’t want to conform to – and once a post is there it’s impossible to slip something in behind it. They do, in that there are potentially multiple ways to navigate a blog – tags are something that help there.

I haven’t posted here for a while – I left Prague three weeks ago and a lot has happened since then which I will now try to fill in as best I can.

Wander as you wish…
